why not seven weeks or more?

The reason why boxers go away to camp is so they have no outside distractions, so their minds will be only on training for the upcoming fight. There's a movie called "Shadow Boxers" it's a film that follows female World Champion Lucia Rijker through training camp. If a fighter goes all out and trains longer than six weeks the chances of them over training (burnout) is extremely high. Been there, done that.

Thanks for the question.

So they don't get burned out. When they go to training camp they are also away from family and friends. I'm not sure, but it may be a reference to military boot camp. The US Air Force recruit training last 6 weeks, so maybe they figure that the military has deemed it to be a good length of time and follow along.

It's sort of like using a piece of steel to pick up the edge on an all ready sharpened knife. Honing ones skills with training specifically designed for the next opponent verses general training. Six weeks is etched in stone, it's more of a traditional number than a given.

training camp is basically so the staff can keep a close eye on you and keep you from being in the women faces most guys go away to some deserted area where there's no communication with society and give the staff that security that you're eating right and in shape and not having sex.
