Its 22Kgs per bag. (check with airline)
remember though..if you goin on holiday...if you taking 22kgs out...you can only bring 22kgs back.
In short...leave a little space over for anything you may buy abroad and wish to bring back with you.
I have heard that BA charges £240 for a second bag regardless of weight.
I was 11lbs overweight on my luggage once and was charged $25.

Flying international with Virgin it is 2 pieces of luggage per person each weighing 23kg. So you can have up to whatever weight allowance stated in EACH bag. Apparently as of September they are charging for each bag put through the hold to stop people travelling with so much luggage.
After reading some of these responses i would check with your airline, but i just flew back into UK last week and bought 2 bags weighing approx 20kg EACH and didn't have to pay any extra charges.

WOW - it's almost unbelievable how different the answers are - half say "total", half say "each", and everyone acts like they know what they're talking about.
Want the real answer? - The real answer is "It depends"
Every airline (and every airline service, such as charters) have their own distinct baggage policies (not just on weight, but how many and what size for each type) and they can vary greatly, so it depends on who you're flying with.
As an example, most of the airlines cited at: www.dod.mil/mapcentral/luggage.html allow 50 pounds (22 Kg) for each bag, but if you look up the policies for FunJet charters you'll find they limit you to a total of 50 lbs/22 kg.
Either way, it's always a good idea to carry a collapsible duffel bag in your luggage so you can distribute weight away from your main bags if you need to (and to have room to bring or ship home the items you purchase while away).

Hi, I would check with your airline or tour operator, normally in UK it's 22kg and you are only allowed 1 suitcase and your flight bag 5kg you are charged for excess luggage.

The weight limit normally applies per passenger, so if you're travelling on your own then it's a total for your two bags.
But as someone else noted, be careful as some companies - including BA, they recently announced - charge for a second bag even if the total of the two is within your weight allowance!

It is 22kg in each bag, and do not think for a moment you can have 24kg in one and 10kg in the other, they charged me 100 dollars for being 2 kg over.

You are allowed to take two bags weighing 22 kg each including the weight of bags.So you can carry a total of 44 kg. However it also depends on the airline you have chosen coz some airlines also allow 2 bags of 32 kg each.

you;re only allowed 22kgs for both bags together. pack light and try rolling your tops so that u'll have enough space to fit all your clothes in just one luggage.
