Sura 27: 61 states " Or, who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and make a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water?
(Can there be another) god besides god? Nay, most of them know not.

So where does it say its fixed?

Untrue. It doesn't say that in the Quran. I'm Muslim and I read Arabic.

The Sura you are talking about is "Surat Al Naml" or "Sura of the Ants", telling the story of Suleiman.

The Sura you state does not in any way say "the earth is fixed and does not move". The translation of this sura states,

"Who is the One who made the earth habitable, caused rivers to run through it, placed on it mountains, and created a barrier between the two waters? Is it another god with GOD? Indeed, most of them do not know."

I'm not particularly religious, but it is undeniable that the Quran states certain facts that were unknown to science back then. When describing the earth, even the phenomenon of continental drift is discussed.

Hi CLONE.... you should be ashamed of yourself to take someone's identity... and more ashamed to ask silly questions...
I know where you got your translation of this verse from... No wonder you are so wrong in your information... read the full verse... the following verses too.. you will understand better... "He made the earth a fixed abode" (the earth is referred to as a resting place here)... and made in it rivers, and raised on it mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier...
So, in simple English... the earth is a firm place where rivers flow, where mountains are firm... and between two seas is a barrier...

Peace!!!

Here are four separate translations of the verse you cited, but failed to quote:

027.061

YUSUFALI:
Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? (can there be another) god besides Allah? Nay, most of them know not.

PICKTHAL:
Is not He (best) Who made the earth a fixed abode, and placed rivers in the folds thereof, and placed firm hills therein, and hath set a barrier between the two seas? Is there any Allah beside Allah? Nay, but most of them know not!

SHAKIR:
Or, Who made the earth a resting place, and made in it rivers, and raised on it mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier. Is there a god with Allah? Nay! most of them do not know!

M.M.ALI:
Or, Who made the earth a resting-place, and made in it rivers and raised on it mountains, and placed beween the two seas a barrier? Is there a god with Allah? Nay, most of them know not.

As we can see, the words "does not move" are not found even in the translation you cited.

Helpful hint:
Next time you wish to discuss a portion of the Qur'an, post the exact text which you desire to discuss so as to avoid needless mistakes and controversy.

edit:okay,you said yusuf ali's translation.

YUSUFALI:
Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? (can there be another) god besides Allah? Nay, most of them know not.

okay,i see something not moving in "mountains immovable".okay let ask you,if mountain moveable,it could mean shaking.shaking mountain is dangerous,it earth quake or something like that will happen.

allah create mountains immovable to avoid mountain "shake" the humans.that in mentioned in other verse:

"And He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and rivers and roads; that ye may guide yourselves, and marks and signposts and by the stars (men) guide themselves." quran 16:15-16

"earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you"

that "lest" word means in order to prevent.

so,that clearly show allah create mountains immovable to avoid mountain shaking the humans

Every religion cannot be a science, because the people believe in something without any proof. All the "science" in religion cannot be a science (maybe religionsience)

It is a religion brought down by God, the Quran is flawless, a divine book that could have only been revealed by God.
