a few yrs ago I was surprised to find beggars on the street fo sanfransisco.they looked really depressed ,some of them were white

I was in india there are so many beggars , but a few of them look calm and even happy. poeple said they are those who knows the truth ,free from worries and greed

how do you think about this? the more you have the more you need so you cant be really happy with this greed.

I am not mature enough to answer it so I ask you.

It can't truly be any fun to have to beg in order to live.....

What I truly hate is when drug addicts ask me for money so they can fill their cravings....

Go get a job like the rest of us.

Happiness is a mental state so i suppose they can be. I think its harder for them to be happy not because of how little physical posessions they have (having nothing tends to humble people and make them really appreciative) but because of the way people treat them. I think it depends on how you percieve your own worth and if you are able to overcome your feelings and concerns about how other people percieve and think of you.

I think the reason they happier in india might be because there are millions of extreamly poor people there and its not too out of the ordinary. People treat them as normal people because they know they could have just as easily ended up in their shoes. They are not seen as subhuman or inferior.

I think the beggars in SFO are probably predominantly drug addicts and alcoholics and mental patients. The beggars in india are probably more engrained in society, as a caste, and are not slaves to the drugs, etc.
