Hiya, I had my braces removed last year. I know that if they felt tight i would drink something cold and it eased them, it makes the wire stretch a teeny bit. I was paranoid about staining and brushed them after i ate or drank. It was a pain at first but i have no marks so am pleased i made the effort. Force yourself to wear the retainers when your treatment is finished, my friend didnt and is now having to go back because her teeth are moving back. When i first got them on i tried not to talk too much and this made them less painful! And finally remind yourself every day how beautiful your smile will be when your treatment is finished x

Take proper care of them [i.e brush and floss every day], do not eat anything your dentist or orthodontist tells you not to eat [like anything hard, crunchy, or sticky], and wear your retainer afterwards as directed. Listen to everything your dentist/orthodontist tells you and it will help you treatment go as smoothly and quickly as possible.
