Does the army have any program similar to the MCMAP? Do they teach pugil sticks or any of the close combat events during basic training?

I used to work for a helicopter tour company, and one of the pilots used to be a blackhawk pilot. He was taught how to escape. Kick in the groin, crushing blow to the windpipe, gouge the eyes, break joints and bones, crush the nose, etc. The whole points wasn't to kill, but to maim and seriously wound so the pilot can escape. Just as an FYI, I'm assuming you're gonna go the Warrant Officer route. And you do need to take the AFAST test, the flight aptitude test. And then after you take it, if you have a passing score, they will select you based on Army needs. Which then reserves you a slot. Minimum passing score is 120 I believe.

Yes, the Army has a basic combatives course during basic training. There is a certification process for unit instructors as well. No it won't make you a martial arts expert, but simply to familiarize yourself.

When I went thru in the 80's it was called hand to hand combat, and it was simple judo moves. Now it is called combatives, and although they still use the basis of judo it has advanced (thanks to Royce Gracie). There are now requirements for combatives in your regular units PT program and it is so big and effective there are compititions within bases, the Army, and even between branches. Also yes there is still pugel stick training.
