I just went through this for my dad's tombstone.
Here's the link: http://www.cem.va.gov/cem/hm_hm.asp
It takes a long time to get the discharge papers (30-60 days). My dad served in WWII, so you may not have to wait as long as we did.
If you choose the bronze headstone, you'll need to purchase the foundation for it which is usually about $60. The cemetery where your uncle is buried will fill you in on that.
Sorry to hear about your uncle. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me. Like I said, I just did the whole burial benefits thing with the VA.

i replaced into constantly decrease than the impact that a DD-214 is your one and basically discharge paper. i will inform you that a protection tension Reserve discharge paper is likewise a DD-214 and that i will no longer be able to think of that there are 2 DD-214's for a similar discharge. touch the organisation Clerk on the Reserve Unit to which you have been assigned. Make copies of the DD-214 which you have, because of the fact I incredibly have been informed that replacements are someplace between incredibly complicated and impossible to obtain. i wish i'm no longer incorrect approximately this because of the fact if i'm it skill you have been released from many times happening military to return to order wherein case you would be AWOL from the Reserve. however the army recruiter could have been able to tell you that .

Contact your local/county Veterans Administrator for assistance (not the VA itself). Did your uncle file his DD 214 discharge in your county? It maybe possible to get the copy of his discharge from there. Otherwise you will have to submit paperwork to Saint Louis to get his DD 214. Here is the VA website:
http://www.cem.va.gov/cem/hm_hm.asp
It should start you off on the right path.

Your looking for his DD214. If he doesn't have this in his personal papers you can try the court, it would be where he had listed as his permenant address with the Army, or where he went to when he got out. You will only find it there if he registered it though, If not you can TRY the VA for assistance and see if they can point you in the right direction. 1-800-672-3782.

Call the Veterans Administration and they will help you to get his DD214 and it's good to go from there. I just did this last year when my husband passed so it should be the same. Once you get the DD214 you can process the application for the tombstone online. It takes many moons for it to get here but they do a nice job with it. Good Luck and God Bless

Try talking to your closest recruiting office. They can help you or at least let you know to where you must apply, no?
