I'm going to D.C. this weekend with a female friend of mine and was wondering what to do. I'm sure we'll hit up the regular monuments and museams, but what are some other "hidden" things to do or any romantic places or anything?

the botanical gardens are very nice, they are right out front of the capitol building. its popular but probably less known then soem of the more common sites. also id suggest Mt Vernon which is about 15-20 miles south, very nice place. maybe the national cathedral as well

Go to the zoo. I think it's romantic, just walking around together and realxing.

Georgetown has some nice little resturants (and the Exorcist steps)

Check out Olde Town Alexandria and on your way back stop off at some of those little parks along George Washington National Parkway. Before you get to Spout Run, there are some little islands out in the river you can walk over on a foot bridge - I think Teddy Roosevelt Island. There's an authentic Moroccan restaurant called Marrakesh, I think it's in NW. I think on weekend nights they have bellydancers.

Skip Chinatown, other than the pretty arch, it's a dump.

Go have Drinks on the roof of the Hotel Washington on 15th St, it overlooks the White House lawn then go up a couple doors for dinner at Old Ebbit Grill, great food plus a lot of media, political types hang out there, then pack a picnic one day and go to Great Falls Park in either MD/VA, I prefer VA, also it is pretty cool to go to the Jefferson Memorial at Night take a romantic walk and sneak away under one of the huge fir trees and DO IT, with TJ looking down on you!!

I think it would be romantic to go to the cute little shops in Georgetown, which is next to D.C. Maybe you could have a picnic at Gravelly Point, the place where you see planes take off from Reagan National Airport.

Check out Old Town Alexandria and the cruises on the Potomac that you can take to view the monuments.
Washington Monument is very romantic at night and the view is very pretty.

It's really cool and pricey but romantic nonetheless. You have a great dinner on the potomac river on a boat and cruise around and go under some cool bridges and see the monuments on the waterfront.
