We're having a small wedding of about 30 guests and I'm wondering if I should put different wording down on the invitations, such as call it an intimate wedding instead of just wedding. Most of the guests are my aunts and uncles on my moms side, and my mom was thinking to put that in so they don't expect the normal traditional wedding with 100+ people, dancing, etc.

Is that a good idea or is it kind of tacky? Or any other suggestions?

I think it's a wonderful idea. Here's an example of how you could word your invitation:

Because you have shared in our lives
with your Friendship and Love, We
Heather Elizabeth Kennedy
and
Alvaro Garcia Maritato
ask you to join us for an intimate ceremony
to celebrate our Love
on Sunday, the nineteenth of March
two thousand and eight
at five in the afternoon
Miami Beach Botanical Garden
2000 Convention Center Drive
Miami Beach, Florida

Why not try to use word of mouth? My sister had a small wedding with about 25 people there and she actually just went without invitations and personally called everyone. She felt that it really set the tone for the intimate small setting they were having...plus she could then let them know that only hors dourves along with cake was all the food that was going to be served.

If you don't or can't call, then I would just leave it as a wedding on the invitation.

Good luck!

Calling it an intimate wedding is not tacky at all. In fact, I think guests will be honored that you have chosen them to share in such a personal and sacred event, only witnessed by your closest friends & family members.

yes calling it an intimate wedding is a good idea. it adds something to the invitation...guests will feel more special as only those close to the couple are invited...hence intimate...

its not tacky at all...its a nice gesture...and to those who think its tacky...well, its YOUR wedding. do what makes YOU happy.

i think intimate sounds just right, it conjurs up a picture of a romantic day with those who matter most there with you, so they will be honoured to be invited to such an affair, not one where every person you've ever met is there! it doesnt sound tacky at all, quite the opposite, good luck
