I have been dating my girlfriend for a year and a half now. My girlfriend comes from a wealthy and well- known family in NYC Her mother is a prominent politician in NYC polititcs. Her mother has always been nice to me, but she is going through a divorce and has been a little stand-offish towards everyone. She tells my girlfriend that she really likes me. I am scared to death of her, and my girlfriend told her mother, to which her mother replied " He shouldn't be scared of me." Am I going crazy and reading into things too much??

You should always have a certain level of respect (and fear) of your girlfriends parents. It's not a bad thing but it helps keep you in line about what you might be doing to their daughter! You'll understand when you are a parent...trust me! ;-)
