Yes they pay for there dress and everything else they need for that day! You may give a gift to the bridesmaid ie. earrings or a bracelet to wear that day but anything other than that is not needed! To become a bridesmaid is a financial commitment! They are also still expect to purchase a gift for the wedding and come together and give you a bridal shower and/or bacholerette party!

Yes, bridesmaids pay for their own dresses. If the bride wants to be very generous, she'll pick up the bill at the salon the day of the wedding.

Yes- bridesmaids pay for their own gear, which plainly sucks if she gets to be the one to pick out what you're wearing, but that's what good friends do for one another. May I suggest something from Waters & Waters? This company makes some FABULOUS bridesmaid and formal dresses, not a meringue in site. I got my bridesmades two-piece dresses from here in a lovely champagne silk- my sister had the skirt shortened later for an outfit to wear to other weddings, and my best friend is keeping hers floor length- she swears she'll wear it as a bridal gown one day. If you can find something that is reusable, it won't be a waste. My sister got married in 1989, and my poufy, sea-foam green floral dress has never seen the light of day since (she also went on to take the same material from our dresses, which we'd had made, and sew a shower curtain for her bathroom. If I'd even WANTED to wear that dress again, seeing it hang next to my sister's toilet would've killed that notion). At least most women actually want their bridesmaids to look good these days; just ask her what colors she favors and try to pick out dresses you like that she might suggest. Also, you'll likely be responsible for throwing her one of several showers, so if a relative or friend offers to take charge of one of them (e.g. personal shower), TAKE THEM UP ON IT. If you think you're paying a lot, just think about the expense the couple is dishing out to put it in perspective.

yes they pay for their won dresses and shoes too. the only thing the bride would pay for would be the thank you gift which is usually jewelry that goes with the dress. everything else is your responsibility. to expect a bride to pay for you is extremely rude, unless they have offered to help you out! im taking it you have never been married. there are so many things the bride needs to worry about and pay for.

They usually pay for their own dresses. Sometimes the bride pays half, and sometimes the bride pays for the entire cost of the dress.

They pay for their own dresses, thank god. As a bride-to-be, I can tell you that I could not afford to have ANY bridesmaids if I had to pay for their dresses as well

why not - bride has enough to pay for (and do)! Just try to get something that you can wear again - skirt and top rather than long dress - and certainly ensure you have comfy shoes, as the photos want to have smiling bridesmaids not grimacing in pain..!
Have fun and good luck!
