I need good, solid, valid reasons why it's a bad idea for my 19 yr old step-daughter to move in with her 24 yr old boyfriend. She's away at college and met this yahoo of a guy whom her mother and I really don't care for. I realize she's 19 and can make her own decisions, and I'll just have to live it, but please help me come up with some really good, decision swaying reasons why she should not do this. Also reasons why the 5 yr gap in their ages is not a good thing either. I'm really trying to help her from making really stupid life mistakes, and I really need some ammo to drive the point home. I have my reasons, but they don't seem to hold any weight.

Any and all answers considered. Can you please please help me?

Wow, sounds like you are in a real tough spot. Makes me glad my daughter is only 4 (wish I could keep here there). I think that any reasons you do give her will be just that to her-- YOUR reasons. I would ask her to list the top ten reasons she wants to move in and seriously listen to her. Then you could make sure she understands what moving in entails, and that she will more than likely be the one doing all the housework because men at 24 are generally slobs (I was). Dr. Laura would hereby proceed to belittle you for being male and make some inane comments about fathers, but I think you probably can't "win" this one. You may just have to love and support your daughter and let her make those dumb mistakes. Tell her your concerns, but let her know you support her. One of my biggest concerns would be the financial aspect (not to mention living with a guy- but it's easier for me to look past that)- make sure she doesn't let this guy bleed her dry. I feel for you on this one, keep your chin up and keep letting your daughter know you love her!
