all forgiving God of the new testament. I thought God was the same now and forever for eternity, unchanging and stable.

You apparently did not pay attention to the Old Testament
If you read in the OT you will see that God did in fact forgive and not destroy because Moses and others talk to Him and He in turn, turned the other cheek and forgave

He loved the people in the Old Testament as well as the people in the New Testament. In the Old Testament God was showing them the sinfulness of man and the need for a Savior. He gave the Israelites the Law to show that they can't meet the standards of God. He promised the Israelites that one day a Messiah would come and would bridge the gap between man and God. In the New Testament Jesus came and full filled the covenants God made in the Old Testament. God doesn't change but the way He deals with people changes based on their spiritual maturity.

Isn't it vaguely possible that God or god has evolved ? He got over his tantrums and apologised. Said he wouldn't ever send a flood again for example. Personally I liked the old jealous devil better. At least he had some chutzpah. Devil in the sense of rogue or character. Personally I think God must have the characteristics found in human beings as the latter are his offspring (made in his own image). He must be an individual rather than some vague collective blob. But as an individual with large responsibilities which he didn't actually anticipate before he thought up people, etc, he was first of all trying out his wings. Getting pissed off with people, heady with power. Then he mellowed....Maybe as heretofore mentioned, he had some heavy weed he had to learn to handle.
I think do not commit idolatry is a Freudian slip. The old cross-dresser. Solomon's metempsychosis? Sorry I am conflating my answers (The Solomon ? on the other channel)

If we got what we deserved,we should all have been wiped out a long time ago.If you would read your Bible you would see God forgive His people time and time again. What did Moses find when He came down from the mountain with the tablets? The people were having a sex orgy and worshipping the golden calf. When they were in the wilderness,God gave them manna from heaven. Were they satisfied? No! they wanted meat. And God didnt get angry at them,He gave them meat. We should all be thankful that God is so gracious to an ungrateful world

Well said!! The bible is wrote by the Church ie the winners story. Its all bo!!ox, you wait till James Cameron's new documentary about Jesus's tomb comes out that will prove it!! And they believe they have found Mary Magdalene's tomb yes that's the Holy Grail and if you have read the Da Vinci Code or The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail (both books being deeply researched) you will know what this means - The end of Christianity. There's is NO God people there is an after life but that is a whole different story!!! There is much more chance of Aliens existing and you have to admit this is a b!oody big universe for just us to occupy!!

There is no change in the character of God between the Old and New Testament. The books of the Bible were written by men who were inspired by God. Their own personalities were allowed to show through in the material they wrote.

When you get a book like Joshua, which was written by a militray general, he writes about battles, wars, victories and using militray terms. Contrast that we the very next book, Ruth, and you have the romance of a young widow whose faithfulness to her mother-in-laws berings a loving husband, security and justice into her life.

Every person is an individual. God has to speak to them in a way that they understand. So to one person he can speak gently and will comfort. Another he has to "kick their rear" to get their attention. You will find that reflected in the dealings he has with the different people of the Bible. So are harsher, others are gentler.

You will find the gentleness of God refelected throughout the Old Testament. How he comforts Eve after the death of Cain with a loving son named Seth. How he sends an angel to save the live of Ishmael and Hagar in the wilderness. How he propered Jacob in his father-in-law's home and brough him back to Canaan as a rich family. How he promoted Joseph in Egypt to save his family from starvation. And so many more

You will find the "harshness" of God in the New Testament where Jesus publicly confronted the Pharisees and other leaders and denounced them as "white washed tombs full of dead men's bones". Jesus drove the money-changers and others from the temple with a whip. Peter revealed the deception of Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, and they were both struck dead on the spot. Barnabus and Paul spoke against the false prophet Bar-Jesus and caused him to be struck blind. Paul called on the Corinthians church to take a man who was living in incest with his mother and to turn him over to satan for the destruction of his flesh.

So there has been no change in God. He is still practices "tough love" in both testaments, which a person has to face the consequences of his own moral decisions. To do otherwise, to shelter a person from their sins, and to enable their self-destructive lifestyle would not be the actions of a loving God.

Reason lies on people culture and development (evolution): At time of old testament you were able to control people only by ritual and lows as aye for the aye, which is nothing less that low of so called KARMA.
First rituals have been based on killing people. Then sacrificing animals. With Christ we start with sacrificing our bad habits.
The next step will be on understanding human nature and working of the ming.

Well, God is actually a woman. In the Old Testament she was a menopausal woman but in the New Testament (and after her hormones balanced out) she calmed down a bit and now she's all right. She even stopped taking her HRT now.

Wow, hahaha. let me explain someting to you.
The God of the new testament and the God of the Old testament are the same God. The Bible does say God is the same yesterday today and forever, he is Just as merciful in the Old testament as he is in the new testament. I suggest you read nehemiah 9 for a summary of How God repeatedly and mercifully forgave isreal, again and again, even after they turned there backs completely on God. Read the psalms, it speaks repeatedly of Gods mercy poured out on sinners. However he is also a wrath filled God, he is Just as wrath filed in the new testament as he is in the Old testament. In acts he killed a Man and a woman simply because they Lied once. Jesus warned that God was to be feared because he could cast the Body and the soul into hell. Paul said that he persuaded men because he Knew the "terror of the Lord". have you ever read revelations? read the terrible judgement contained in this apocolyptic book. it certainy would put the fear of God in anybody, which incidentally is the beggining of wisdom. But perhaps the Most fearful Display of Gods wrath, was Upon jesus on the Cross. Let me explain.......

Have you ever lied, stolen, lusted, coveted, or been angry with someone unjustly? If so, then you have broken the Law of God. God has said "You shall not steal; You shall not lie; You shall have no other gods before Me; You shall not murder, Commit Adultery, covet ect. You get the picture. God is Holy and Just and he is Bound by his own goodness to make sure Justice is done. you see, The Commandments are the display of Gods Character and righteousness, so to break Gods law is to offend Giod and deny the Holiness of his character. This is why God will Not let the wicked go free. The Bible says Gods justice will grind you to powder, he has the power to cast your soul and your Body into hell, and thats what Gods Justice demands. The Good news is that Christ died for you. Gods wrath was poured out upon Jesus and he was seperated and experienced the crushing wrath of God on your behalf. Now, God Commands you sir, to repent (turn from sin) and trust in jesus and be saved. The Moment you repent and trust in jesus you will be forgiven and granted eternal life. Please, take a moment and examine my motiv for talking to you this way, I dont want your money, I dontwant you to Join my Church, Im simply begging you to do something about your eternal salvation.
God Bless

God is the same. And at the End of Times God will send all those with the Mark of The Beast back out into the hot, miserable world with lakes of fire and will take the best the Earth has to offer with him to a nicer place.

generically speaking.. like a loving parent dealing with a strongly rebellious child.. God had to be strict... in order to protect those He chose to guide as His children.

it was only a matter of people humbling themself to obey that would have kept the harshness from happening. if that amounts to being dictatorial.. then that means that every parent .. teacher.. law of the land is also dictatorial.

but many consider that laws are good.. so the arguement against God is just an opinion.. seeking self justification.
