Most Auction House will not accept a photo of your picture, you will have to physically take it somewhere to be apraised, sorry.

I suppose so, but make sure it is to reputable people or firms, ie don't send to me as I have no idea of the value of paintings, but I do like to see them.

You need a cover letter with a brief explanation (who, what, where, when, how; you get the idea?) of the painting to the museum, gallery, or auction house.
If they deem this worthy of their consideration, they will contact you and let you know what to do.

Try phoning Sothebys in London. They have a valuation dept.
