Autism (sometimes called “classical autism”) is the most common condition in a group of developmental disorders known as the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. Other ASDs include Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS). Experts estimate that three to six children out of every 1,000 will have autism. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females.

My brother has autism and over the years I have met many of his friends. I think your question is very broad. There are common clusters of features but you cannot say that two people with autism will be the same, in fact like everyone else they are often completely different personalites! Try websites like http://www.nas.org.uk which might be able to help you.

Its a collection of syndromes, so autistic people tend to fall into groups of similar types rather than display identical behaviours. Some of the syndromes are easier to diagnose than others, and some are easier for autistic people to learn to manage than others. My lad has two autistic mates and they're very different people.

I know some, my son has it. The problem is I don't think anyone totally understands it, and probably never will. Everyday is something new.
