self love..... hmmmm. The bible says that anything that separates you from God is a sin. In other words if you masturbated so much that it came between your relationship with God, it could be a sin. It's a natural part of being human and the vast majority of people do it without feeling like they sinned. Whatever you do, act out of faith, being convicted of the truth in your own mind. If your conscience says its wrong, then it's wrong for you. But it's not your job to convince other people they should live like you in this regard. And people (mainly men) who masturbate too much, don't always have the healthiest relationships with or views of the opposite sex. They tend to see a woman as an object not as a person. Certainly not a good trait or reputation to have.
And the reference to spilling seed on the ground was more about hygiene and preventing the spread of disease. If you are gonna cite references you should at least give the true context of the verse.

as a christian, this is what I can say about it. It's all in how you do it. Keeping your mind pure can be hard, but it is very possible. Are you sitting there thinking about how you would like to 'do' someone? (bad) or are you using it to get rid of excess sexual need?(good) are you sitting there thinking about that person you have a crush on?(bad) or are you just enjoying youself?(good)
There is nothing wrong with it, but you have to be sure you heart is in the right place. make sure that you are just enjoying your body and not enjoying "evil" thoughts.
Are you married? because then if your lover has no problem with it, then there is nothing wring.
It's like anything else that can become a sin. If you use it the wrong way it can be bad. like money- enjoying money is fine, the Love on money is wrong. You just have to pray and keep your mind clear, having God in your heart at all times to keep you Cleen. God gave us the ablity to feel good in that way- heck, god created sex and sexual urges. they are all good things. but you have to make sure that you use them in the right way.
If you are still curious maby you could read a book that helped me allot with that question.
It's called
"Sex is not the problem (lust is)" by Joshua Harris

Most people do it and enjoy it, even if they don't masturbate now they would have enjoyed it at some stage in their lives...if they say they never did they are either liars or extremely unusual.
Anyone who is thinking about the Bible when masturbating has a psychological problem if you ask me.
So long as you don't make love to yourself too much then it's not a problem. How much is too much?...that's for you to decide but you'll probably know.

If it is for a "lonely" joy, it's bad.. as it's against the natural course of nature, you must seek a wife instead..
If it's because you have some problems to marry, it's ok. as long as the barrier to marriage remains.
If it's to be done instead of commiting another thing which is more severe; it is rewarded!
If you are away from your waife, in another country, working, fighting, sailing, It is a must instead of committing adultery and cheat on her.

If it's truly a sin, and there really is a God, then everyone who has ever walked this earth is currently burning in hell.
Everyone.

If it is a sin, it's one that ALL humans indulge in.
Remember, there are only two kinds of people;
Those that masturbate and those that lie about not masturbating.
