If they reject it so much then why do they troll around on this site and so many other religious forums. Surely, something which you so wholeheartedly reject isn't worth your time.

MC hummer, you n00b. Who said anything about theocracy foo'? I am very much in favour of religious freedom. Your presumptious rhetoric is fairly indicative of your fallacious beliefs.

What would you rather have ... a forum here where everyone is of exactly the same opinion? A message board devoted only to sending prayers and blessings to the equally deluded?
Or would you rather have a mature discussion medium, where the idea of religion is openly debated?
Or is your mind so closed to alternative views on the subject that you would rather not be exposed to contrary views?
You have to understand that religion is in itself a fascinating subject, even for atheists. it is a window into the human mind and all its frailty.
As someone else has suggested, though, it is a very small opportunity to object to the intrusion of a false belief system into our governments and education systems.
Another viewpoint which may help you is to suggest that one doesn't actually have to have AIDS to be able to discuss the problem. Religion is the same. It is a global problem that needs addressing.
What I actually do with my own time is irrelevant to the matter. I am retired and have as much time as I wish. Religion in all its forms attracts my attention and I enjoy analysing it.
What is so difficult to understand about all that?
In addition, it is hoped that, by spreading the atheism idea, it may just encourage the deluded who live in a fantasy-world to open their minds to the possibility that they are being illogical and unreasonable ... planting the one seed in their minds that may help someone come to the fruition of reality. One can but hope. it IS a numbers game.
So, cope with it. Atheists are here to stay. Some will insult you for being childlike. Some will be serious in their answers. Some will not even bother answering a question that has been asked so many times before.

A person who believes in God and I, the atheist, can have exactly the same values. The God-believer thinks something is a good thing or the truth because God supposedly said so, and I believe it's a good thing or the truth because it's common sense. I have nothing against the values religion teaches, I just think that all that wisdom didn't come from god, it came from us, the humans on earth.

It is in the focus one chooses to see which may be causing some to only see the atheists rejection of God. When someone asks a question such as this, it invites the focus of atheists to answer the question. Although I understand your frustration, as I have experienced like things on other forums, I respectfully suggest perhaps the focus should be on asking questions which nurture faith instead of rejection of it.
It is my feeling the antagonism one experiences is directly proportional to the amount of frustration and anger one puts into the question. It is the intolerance on both sides which brings the animosity into play.
A willingness to be open to all answers, not just the ones one may desire, will foster learning in all its forms, positive and negative. Both types of answers will be eye opening if one chooses to embrace them and focus on the lesson in each type.
Best wishes

So you're promising that religion is going to just disappear from our lives? And if we leave here, no-one here will ever talk about atheism again?

You know as well as I do that religion intrudes on all of our lives, and that believers routinely attack/slander atheists. Just look at the three dishonest attacks immediately below this response. It's utterly disingenuous of believers to suggest that atheists can simply choose to ignore religion: the religious won't allow us to. It's your behavior causing the problem here, not ours.

So the better question is "why are religious people so willing to 'bear false witness' against atheists?". Why are you so threatened by the fact that intelligent people don't share your religious beliefs? Aren't you supposed to believe on the basis of faith? If that's the case, why are you so bothered by the fact that reason and evidence are against you?

I only reply even as brought on. you'll no longer obsess over something that does no longer exist. No atheist knock on doors nor pass out literature that I particularly have met. you do not have any "evidence" of atheist urgent their perceptions in different international locations yet state to manage to boost your weak argument and unsubstantiated view. even if it isn't accessible for something to "pop" out of no longer something then who or what made god? The earths distance from the solar isn't consistent neither is it truly is inclination as both have replaced through the centuries. Even the rotation of the earth isn't consistent. existence itself is tenacious and has got here about in various diverse places, environments and planets. you're assuming that our planet is the in reality planet with existence. Earth like planets were stumbled on and existence isn't continuously as "we" hit upon it to be. This has been shown even on the earth. the position guy once concept existence did not or could no longer exist we've stumbled on significant, and distinct existence found in what became once believed to be environments antagonistic to existence itself. As mankind will develop into more suitable able and bigger knowledgeable we are able to discover that we are no longer the in reality existence and that we were no longer the "perfect" that the christian god could do. imagine about it!

1) Because godbots like yourself won't keep religion out of schools and government. Until the religious stop foisting it into places and onto people where it is unwelcome, atheists will continue to defend our own AND everyone else's rights. You want theocracy instead of democracy, and then wonder why people resist; how hypocritical.

2) The religious prove their ignorance by asking the same question repeatedly. This has been asked and answered dozens of times, and godbots like you avoid looking for it. The answers are available, you're just too lazy to read them and too arrogant to accept them when you do.

Is it any wonder that cretins - oops, creationists - reject science?

Religion n. 4. A cause, a principle, or an activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Though it isn't the most popular usage of the word religion, it is dictionary definitive. Therefore, Atheist's adherence to there belief and defense of it are not any more an obsession toward their religion than the Christian or Muslim obsessions to their religions.

That's a good question. If religious people were half as fervent about their religion as Internet atheists were about trashing religion then the whole world would be converted by now.

My guess is that they were somehow harmed by religion in the past and now have an axe to grind. I also think they get a perverted kick out of getting someone all riled up.

I would think that underneathe their rhetoric, is a great thirst for truth. They play a key role in God's plan and can not be discounted nor should we try to convert. This must happen naturally, God does the saving, not us. The best thing any believer could do is be positve and share with them and show them instead of telling them.
