No,, they approve the use of toxic crap, then dont monitor the production or use of it. Foods are loaded with chemicals, artificial synthetic ingredients, modified foods (foods spliced with all manner of nasty things-google it for more info) dyes made from the likes of crushed cochlear beatles (red food color) steroids, preservatives, and all other sorts of disgusting stuff. If they get their pockets appropriately lines, they could care less whats in our food supply. Now, they say cloned meat is perfectly fine, and does not need to be labeled as such. If the average person knew what I know about food, they would alter their diets dramatically. Its a toxic world. As far as nutritional value in canned food, rest assured that any "nutrition" is synthetic, as the canning process itself renders the food void of any nutritional value. Frozen vegetables are acceptable, but look at the ingredients, and determine if the synthetic stuff outweighs the value of the original food. I have a policy that if I cant pronounce it, or dont know what it is derived from, I dont eat it

I believe its the responsibility of the actual company to carry out quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA). There may be a government food safety dept. that randomly conducts tests and assessments on food companies in different countries/states though.

In canned foods especially the batches must be carefully prepared otherwise there are serious consequences such as food poisoning by microbes.

Of course companies are obliged to comply because of food legislation as well as consumer satisfaction. It would cost more to be sued than to follow food safety laws.
