Over-population -one cause of malnutrition, poverty
GREED of a few. Especially the Western world, we want toys (computers etc) fast things (fast food fast cars) -these things ALL damage the environment means less food.
Actually improved medicine. e.g. in 2001 I died, but was bought back I now suffer several diseases
In the past a parent was lucky if 1 of 13 children got to adulthood.
Weak people died and did not get old enough to suffer but now medicine keeps ill people alive longer.
Charity - (seems odd) we help people in times of famine so they can live until the next famine. What we should do is find ways of improving climate, reducing plant /animal disease which can cause the many famines
Nice /IMPORTANT question

Greed I would have to say...just having graduated from a science field I have never felt more strongly about it.

It's the nature of mankind..it's in our genes. GREED.
And even though I should not be treading on religion, I see it as having the same motive as science.

Perhaps even before Adam and Eve fed on the forbidden fruit..we have craved for knowledge that will empower 'us'.
And with growing investments in new and better science & technology, mainly the rich have access to it..

I think future science should be aimed at 'curing' this component of mankind. Don't you think?

Then again..Ignorance is bliss.

Before the middle ages, science was pretty advanced. Some of that advanced science still exists in things like yoga and Chinese medicine, but much of it is lost and still being rediscovered.

Poverty is a form of control. There are bad people who actually profit from it, and they use their power to make people suffer.

Gandhi said "the earth has enough for every man's need, but not for every man's greed". This has always been true.

I had a friend who is a pharmacist and she said that the government was us to get sick so they can monitor how we fight it in our own immune system. For example, the bird flu, the media and other medical professionals said we don't have enough of the vaccine. That is a lie. My friend said they have plenty of the vaccine but won't use it until they see what happens to people who get it. Also cancer should have a cure at this point but cancer makes way too much money on the treatment of it so they do not want a cure for it.

Scientific advancement costs money, and thus is subsidized by the rich. They are its primary benefactors. The poor generally are not allowed to contribute or benefit except as a side-effect.

because there is no money in the cure!!!!! our economy would crumble if technology fixed eveything. that same technology is what screws everything up to begin with.....and its all intentional. for example..... who are all these bs hackers that keep producing computer viruses? they are employees of microsoft!!! one department makes the virus and the next department makes the anti-virus........why, to sell us their product!!! same goes for medicine politics foriegn relations etc.... money money money money money $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
