if you ask a guy whether he happens to have your number and he says that a mutual friend already gave it to him (he didn't ask for it from her but she just gave it to him) but he asks for it from you again does it mean that he's interested? or not?

If he asks for it of his own will, then he wants it. If he waits for you to bring the subject up then asks for it there is a fair chance hes just trying to make you feel better. On the other hand, if hes the type that looses or forgets things often... It maybe that he is interested even if you have to bring it up first. Hard to say without knowing the induvidual.
