For one thing, we have no idea if they are making a bomb or not, they do have soem legitamate concerns on how to meet their countries increasing demands for energy and what they will do without oil.
Besides that, if Iran had a nuclear bomb they would have the capacity to rule the middle east and cause great damage, potentially.
If Iran didnt have a supreme leader that has nearly absolute power over the republic, it could have been ok, maybe.

Because Iran signed a treaty called the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which bans the development of nuclear weapons. The quid pro quo with the existing nuclear powers is that RUssia, US, France, Britain and China have to provide assistance to the other countries in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
And Iran is talking about wiping Israel off the map. Letting Iran develop the bomb is like selling an axe to a man who mutters under his breath about chopping up his wife

At this point, with so many nations having nuclear capability, unilateral nuclear disarmament to negotiate with Iran is unthinkable. Iran doesn't have an impressive record of peaceful resolution to political problems. I am not so afraid that Iran will use these weapons against Israel. I think Israel would make light work of the Iranian threat by the Walls of Jericho/into oblivion resolution. What scares me is that Iran might hold the world at bay in considering Iranian demands due to the nuclear threat. It is clearly the policy of the "industrialized nations" to keep nukes out of the hands of the independent oil producing/competing nations of the middle east to maintain some semblance of balance of power in this hotbed of political unrest.

Those countries have proven they are responsible members of the world community and their nuclear weapons will not be used inappropriately. Iran's theocracy is anything but.
