It happens twice a year. She will bleed for about a fortnight, then she is extremely fertile and you'll have to be very careful not to let her out of the house/off of the lead for a further ten days after that.

Don't forget that her instincts are telling her to find a mate no matter what, so you can get some unwanted behaviour, and she will pull hard on her lead and do anything to try to escape the house. Male dogs who live around will also be going crazy - our golden retriever has just finished her first season and a woman who lives at the very least half a mile away from the house said her labrador dog was howling during the night! :-)

They last upto 3 weeks, and are in season every 6 months
I would advice if you dnt want any litters keep her indoors.
keep a note from now so u no in 6 months time it all starts again.

I wouldnt advice to be neuted til she's ad at least one litter they do say there temperment changes if you do it before they've ad a litter.
Good Luck ...

All the best.

It lasts about 3 weeks in total, and she will come into season twice a year. The middle week is when she is most fertile and will start spotting and trying to mate with anything that moves - or doesn't as the case may be!

She will want more loving and petting during this time.

The bleeding part lasts about a week, but she is still receptive to males 5 days before and up to a week after she is done bleeding. The receptive time really depends on the breed, and her linage. Females usually come into heat twice a year, roughly 6 months apart from each time.

Really its different from dog to dog. A german Shepard is usually in heat twice a year, and it lasts about 10 days. Thats the text book answer anyway. How ever I had one in the not so distance past that went into heat every 3 months but she only stayed in heat for 4-5 days.

Generally speaking, bitches will come into season approximately every 6-8 months. However this can vary tremendously and some bitches will come into season more or less frequently. The season will last approximately 21 days.

Bitches come into season on average for about 3 weeks. She can become pregnant at any time during this time so you need to be vigilant and make sure she doesn't have access to entire males. They usually coming in ever 6 mths but it will vary from b1tch to b1tch and can be anything from 4 mths upto a year.
