I had huge problems with my family, friends, and wife regarding my anger problems. Recently had a major fight with the wife, and she is willing to leave me. The family also are having problems accepting my behavior, and I really hate it. My wife is not willing to wait for divorce, therefore I am willing to take therapy as soon as possible to get rid of this problem. I'm just wondering how much time is it going to take? Is it even enough or useful? How can anyone notice the difference to know if I was treated or not?

Thanks

Therapy is not an antibiotic: you don't take it for a prescribed amount of time, and then you're fixed. It's different for each person. Showing a committment to change may be enough to stave off divorce for now; additionally, your therapist may teach you techniques that will help you within a matter of weeks or months. But each person's problems and anger is different, and there's no way to say for sure how long it will take. Your first move should be to seek out anger management sessions with a licensed therapist (speak to your doctor if you need help finding one). Good luck. People will notice the difference when you put the techniques you learn in counseling to use, and you don't blow up at people at the drop of a dime.

It only helps if you WORK to make it work. It's really up to you. It's not something that can be cured...only something that YOU learn to deal with. YOU have to learn self-control.
