See if you are talking about God he is far more better than tit for tat revenge. If reward and punishment were given on this earth then the concept of after life and the whole heaven and hell seems not very lucrative.
We cannot relate and deduce that what happened is due to the things one may have done in the past. I've heard someone tell me that if you are facing any trouble its because Allah wants to reduce the count of my sins on the day of judgement, which I think is not the case. I think we are here for the test and the report card of the test will be given on the day of judgement. Seperate scenarios are given to man and tested to see whether he chooses the right path or the wrong paths all which accounts to final result. The only way to bribe your way out is by repenting and try and not repeat it.
These small problems that you mention of is Allah's way of creating awareness among common man which is far too busy with daily life chores. When such things happen the questions come into a common mans thinking that "who am I?" "What am I doing here?" "Why is this injustice going on?" etc. This is how a man becomes self aware and starts looking for an answer. And the answer is already present in every man. Its the self consiousness or inner voice that makes you feel kind of jittery before you do something wrong and hurts you mentally and morally after you do it. Then he / she turns to find the answer and when the inner voice and the outer voice (Prophets and the revelations) speak the same language then he chooses a path and works on paving a path towards eternal happiness.
See just the pictures depicting prophet and people have come to the streets and innocents are killed. These people have no idea of what our Prophet is in its true sense. People used to call him Mad, Stupid etc (a'wuz billah) but he heard them and not fight back because it was not the time nor the place.
So we need to follow him, make a unified "Islamic state" not "Muslim state" and then strike the hammer and it will be so loud that no roof in the world will remain without the name of Allah.
So my brother in faith the first step is to D'awah bil Qura'n, rather than pointing fingers straighten ourselves up first. Follow the life of the prophet step by step.
Even if there is persecution Muslims were not allowed to lift there hands even defensively durring the first years of the prophets D'awah. This is something that will prepare us for the tasks and make us strong in what we are supposed to implement on the earth.

Or maybe the riots are a result of a clash of generations and/or POLITICS, and have nothing to do with that cartoon publishing/Blasphemy, which happened quite a while ago. It seems if it were a punishment it would be sooner than just now, because if punishment happens too much after any event, then it really loses its effect and intended purpose (to either decrease the behavior that warrented punishment and/or make them learn a lesson).

How does a group of people rioting have anything to do with proving Islam to be the truth? Especially as many of those rioting are Muslims, acting in defiance of the "religion of peace"?
If Allah had wanted to punish Denmark wouldn't it be something more recognisable as divine punishment, like an earthquake, flood, etc?

Yeah and within the past week Los Angeles Korean and Jewish lobbies protested the heck out of a Korean cartoon that they found offensive. People say the Muslims are CRAAAAAAAZY for protesting something like a cartoon. But now these groups have ´jumped up onto the condescension ladder to offer their mischputz´. ANYBODY who protests so much over a cartoon, should look at the worse things, like neo-nazis, radical Judaism and Christianity, but don´t worry, everybody is already looking at radical Islam, so I don´t even have to mention that one. People take things too seriously. I wasn´t offended when South Park compared Catholicism to molestation. Radical anything is bad. The only thing I am radical at is being a cool dude. Love and Respect.

How do you explain frequent riots in Pakistan? Are they a punishment from Allah?
You need to stop the religious control freakery and allow some wholesome religions in:
Christianity, Sikhism + Buddhism would improve Mohammed-adhering societies immensely. Let the people choose.

If each and every act done on earth was immediately rewarded or punished by the great Allah then there would be free will whatsoever. If that was the case every single Muslim would live in magnificent luxury with no knowledge of hardship while every single non-Muslim would be festooned in boils and wounds, trees would fall over to hit them and rocks near them would explode for no reason.
If you had read the holy Quran fully you would realise that Islam is a religion of choice and free will not Allah enforcing slavery upon mankind by blessing every virtue with reward and punishing every earthly transgression.
I doubt the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) really cares that much about a single cartoon drawn from a position of ignorance, Mohammad was a man of peace and had the wisdom to forgive. It seems more and more people are forgetting that Allah values peace and only sanctions fighting as a way to defend the helpless and weak.

True Islam would have shown a higher moral example like martin luther king to expose their errors, not join them with one of their own.
Governments have media tools to influence the minds of consumers and the victims live under the hostility of it, if they break under the pressure of it you can then see that on the following days news buletin.
As a christian, i see the law of eye for an eye and tooth for tooth Moses. A heart exposed to religious hatred returns a heart with rioting, whoever puts the most pressure on the other (with sin) until they break will win. The new convent of Jesus and forgiveness is to take the hostility and resist it, those that forgave Jesus on the cross did not seek to add greater pressure to it and were cleansed of the sins of those who were crucifying him.

This is not a real islamic logic,
the way the god works is much more complicated than this simple analysis.
see the stories of all the prophets & you'll understand that they were mocked & some were even tortured & killed.
however the god retaliated according to his wisdom & his will.
some were forgiven because they repent, others were punished in this life & others were delayed to the severe punishment of hell.

Let's see if I have this straight -
people are rioting in the streets
innocent people are being hurt
property is being destroyed
everyone is injured and inconvenienced and the whole reputation of the country is being damaged
and this is proof that Allah is the only truth?
Sure sounds like a religion I want to rush right out and sign up for.
Cartoons of Mohammed are redundant, because behavior of his followers in too many places has made him a cartoon in the eyes of many around the world.
