I have an idea for using them and re-using them when I host parties to serve cocktails in. I know I can use them once when they are fresh and have the meat inside, but I have seen places that sell the scraped out shell as a cup and I thought it would be fun to make my own. I'm just concerned that there might be some hygenic cleaning process that I need to do.

you could boil a pot of water, then use tongs to hold the cleaned-out coconut cups in the water for 10 minutes. then set them on paper towels to dry.

that's what people do with canning supplies, because they have to be very sterile.

Coconut Drinking Cups

I made some of them. I used a hack saw and cut my shell clean in half and then removed all the coconut from the shell. Then took sand paper and smooth it out real clean and polish the shell inside not out. Then take a smaller coconut and do the same thing and use the smaller one as the holder and put it on the ooposite side and use epoxy to glue it on.

Then you can sit your drink down.
They make good cups at parties.

I would say simply hot water and some dish soap to clean the shell. The coconut milk and meat are the only volatile things, and once those are gone the shell should last quite awhile. Try to trim the bottoms a little bit too, so they can stand upright!

Coconut shell is the skin of the fruit, It consists of layers of stringy fiber held together by a fruity substance.

It is designed to fall apart so that the inner elements are released and a tree starts growing.

Placing the shell in hot water may dissolve the compound that holds the strings together.

You may have to use some type of adhesive that is not toxic

The problem is....the carbonation in the beer. If you place it in the sippy cup the pressure will build and it will still leak out the top. I'd say just put a nipple on the beer bottle.

I read somewhere that you just clean inside and outside, then with the cut off top glue it as a base.
