Choosing a Godparent for your child is not a matter of partnering or having couples as "godfather and godmother". We must choose the ones we know that would be a model or a second parent for our child. Godparents who will treat our child as their own. it doesn't matter if he or she is single. what matter is, whenever your child needs them, they will be always there to guide your child and comfort them.

My husband and I chose a brother and sister (friends of ours) to be "godparents" we werent looking to have our daughters godparents in the traditional sense of it and so it was more an honour to two people we really care about and want to be part of our childs life.

So I dont see the problem with asking your brother, but it all depends on what you expect from a godparent.

The idea of godparents is that if something was to happen to the parents, then there would be someone to look after the child.

For our son, we chose two male friends and a female friend as they are good role models and will guide and nuturte our son as he grows up. Also, if anything were to happens to us, our son will be in good hands.

Darnit. Now you got me thinking. I'll have to ask my parents what they would've done had something happened to me as a child.

I was baptised and chose my religion as an adult. The Catholic church said I could choose 1 person for several reasons so I chose a nun. Unofficially, I also have a priest as a Godfather.

If you are Catholic, there is an old tradition that has been altered and/or is no longer practiced that would be sweet. A saint is chosen and called by name to watch over the child for their entire life. I did some reading and chose a more modern saint whose personality matched my own. :X

Nothing wrong with that. That's the way it is with my Godparents, and it actually worked out for me well as far as attention and gifts when I was a child. Maybe your husband's sister could be the Godmother? That would prob work well.

God parents aren't necessary as long as you have in writing what you want done with your children should you and your significant other be in a situation where you are no longer able to care for your child (dead, coma, long-term illness). Make sure that family knows where they can find this so that there is no question of what you want to happen. If you want your brother to care for the kids then make sure he is good with that and that the rest of the family knows your wishes.

In order to be a God Parent, one of the two has to be a practicing Catholic. It can be anyone you choose after that. And I have a few friends with siblings and they have different godparents.

NO IT IS NOT A BAD THING! SOMETIMES HAVING COUPLES CAN BECOME A PROBLEM IF THEY WERE TO SPLIT UP. I'D SAY IF YOU REALLY WANT YOUR BROTHER TO BE THE GODFATHER THAN PICK SOMEONE FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMEBER TO BE THE GODMOTHER. THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

not at all! I can only reference the Catholic church, as that is my faith, but with our daughters, we chose the godfather from one side of the family, and the godmother from the other. That way both sides of the family are happy!

Anyone can be you child's god parents. I chose my bestest friend to be my daughter's god mother. She showered her with gifts and clothes which is a good thing for my daughter. And now I am my bestest friend's son's god mother. It's a wonderful feeling being a god parent.
