Here's a list provided by the TSA. If you don't see a specific item mentioned, or are unsure, call your airline.

Here is some stuff for you: Please make sure that if you carry any liquid, cream, gel or paste that it is 3 oz or less. That is including hairspray and nail-polish. Also please have them remove it and place in a 1 quart size zip-lock plastic bag and when you go to the security checkpoint you will have to remove it and place it in a bin and place inside the x-ray machine for the screener to see. If you are going to take any meds. make sure that you have the prescription or the bottle that it came in. No guns, knifes, or anything that can hurt people or blow people up or hurt you are allow onto the planes. Here is a big no-no that people do not think about if there bags get searched. Do not say " Oh yeah you must have seen my gun in there." They take things like that real seriously these days. You might think that is a joke, but they don't.
Here is a site for you that will answer your question. I have included one other site for you because I don't know about you but when I travel I like to lock my stuff, so here is some TSA approve locks that you can use. You can get them at any Wal-Mart, K-Mart or even at the airport newspaper stands for your check luggage.

Anything tha is liquid or creme can't be hand carry coz they'll take it when you go through the customs.Any sharp objects, meds Rx. that doesn't have Dr.'s Rx. and don't need to be hand carried. Lighters aren' allowed in any US CUSTOMS AT ALL if you're going to US or out of US. Explosives, or anything that can be lethal, Plants, or animals, that have no permit to travel, food stuff can't be hand carry either except for munchies. Other than that, you can carry anything as long as you check it in and not hand carry it. There are limits on how much cigs, alcohol you also can bring with you if you're planning to bring it with you for gift purposes or whatever. other than that go to your airline website and check other details.
cheers!!!

Its quite a long list these days and your airline should be able to help with that information. One item that should be on the list is small squawking babies on long haul flights :-)
