yes it does. sometimes it takes awhile because God is testing or strenghting our patience. sometimes he doesn't answer in the way that we think that he should. However he knows best because he is the all knowing.
Keep the faith, don't give up. I find that reading the bible helps. Seeing how Abraham's prayers were answered but how long it took, everything that Job had to endure and yet God never left him, the whole book of Psalms is a cry out to God.
Just remember the poem footsteps. When the man thought he was alone because there was only one set of footsteps, God told him that he never left him but it was because God was carring him.
Also you may want to try and pray outloud by yourself in a private area. You would be amazed at the strenght that gives to prayer. Also in desperation I call out El Saddai. It means God almighty...and the bible say's God heard Abraham because he used that name. Furthermore have other people pray with you for God also said where 2 or more are gathered there I will be. I hope this helps. I said a prayer for you, and all of my prayers have been answered.

How do we know that "answered prayers" are illusions? We simply perform scientific experiments. We ask a group of believers to pray for something and then we watch what happens. What we find, whenever we test the efficacy of prayer scientifically, is that prayer has zero effect:

It does not matter who prays.
It does not matter if we pray to God, Allah, Vishnu, Zeus, Ra or any other human god.
It does not matter what we pray about.
If we perform scientific, double-blind tests on prayer, and if the prayers involve something concrete and measurable (for example, healing people with cancer), we know that there is zero effect from prayer. Every single "answered prayer" is nothing more than a coincidence. Both scientific experiments and your everyday observations of the world show this to be the case every single time.

Why would there be amputees if prayer works ?

There is no evidence whatsoever that prayer "works" in the sense that you are more likely to get something if you pray for it. However, prayer certainly can be helpful, at least on a psychological level, if you believe strongly enough. There is evidence, for example, that prayer can be helpful to religious believers who know they are being prayed for, be it because of God or because of the placebo effect. However, there is no evidence of the same effect for people who are not aware of being prayed for, so it seems to be largely an effect in the minds of believers. The real question isn't "Does prayer work?"; anyone can tell you that if you pray for something, it won't necessarily happen, no matter how strongly you believe. Rather, the more realistic question for theists is "Are the psychological effects of prayer caused by God, or by natural processes?" Either way, something isn't necessarily going to happen just because you believe (even with all your heart!) that it will. Sorry, but the Disney cliche isn't the same as the real world. If God helps anyone at all, God helps those who help themselves.

prayers always work. first we must know a thing, if the prayer doesnt produces the desired results it doesnt mean it didnt work,. suppose today u pray to got that u need 1000 dollars, and u got it then that was better for u for God knows all what is hidden, and suppose u did not get those 1000 dollars u will think God didnt listen, but do u know one thing may be these 1000 dollars were going to bring an evil to u that is why God stopped u from evil. In this way God fulfills ur wishes u wished if not here in the hereafter u will get a reward for what u asked him even if it be a very simple thing....

I would be so bold as to say that IT WORKS ABOUT AS WELL AS ALMOST ANY TYPE OF GROUP CHANTING THAT INVOLVES TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND PLACING FAULT ON A DEITY. You know god helps those who help themselves, and don't you feel a little selfish for asking a supreme deity to change a perfect plan??? Ahhh Anyway, do it it it makes you feel good but remember that like in nature the only reason your children don't eat first is because you have scolded them and made them pay respect t you and your god before being allowed to eat. Watch wolves eat, all of them do it but the biggest eat first... so uh yeah go ahead traumatize some more innocent people into your cult and force religion down the next generations throats and swallow the koolaid your parents gave you. Its good I promise. Just remember that since you saw a koolaid man jump out of a wall it doesn't mean it will happen for you afterwords. Drink the koolaid and feel good to conform to Americas Downfall. Or at least let someone slip in some cyanide first, then i will not have to look at more of the same when it comes to asking someone like me over the Internet how you should worship your Deity. But do what you are comfortable with...

Prayer is the only thing that works but make sure that you seek the will of the Lord before you pray and make sure that your prayers are not selfish prayers.

Yes, it does work. I have prayed for things and the Good Lord has answered. Sometimes though, some prayers are left unanswered. Sometimes what we want isn't what God has in mind. Have faith!

Prayer works!!!
You must listen and be patient.
We learn from what God shows us. Are you ready to listen, to see?, be still close your eyes. Ask God for forgiveness and for guidance. Thank God for making you apart of His glorious plan.

If you are doubting prayer and God read this book:

When God Doesn't Make Sense,
by Dr. James Dobson

God Bless!!
