My friend has invited me to dinner in his home. They just moved in to their new house. I would like to take a nice gift for the hostess, his wife. As a professional bartender, I've always taken along a bottle of great wine or cognac to these things. However, this couple does not drink. What should I take now?
Any suggestions?

If u have never been to the house then home decor cud be tricky becoz u might get sumthing that does not go with their style. Kitchen appliances are good BUT expensive and they might already have it so that one is also tricky. So go with food. Get a starter or desert or even a snack, sumthing that u will all enjoy. Gud luck with this one, have a gud one.

I would suggest a nice collection of dessert pastries. Make it varied. Tarts, Eclairs, Napoleons, A few guilty pleasures never seem off the mark.... Good Luck!

MUGS!!!! since you're a bartender i think you are very familiar with mugs! and you said that they are a couple...i think two huge coffee mugs...you know like they come in pairs. Everyone drinks coffee and im sure its very simple and cheap but when it comes from your heart! then...they will surely love it. better buy a RED one, its cuter! so the wife with her husband can remeber your face everyday of their lives!

Flowers or a nice plant is always welcome... You could also include something from the gourmet section of a fine grocers... your favorite seasoning, or a jar of capers, a hard candy in a dish... something you don't see every day.

how about some gormet jelly beans, a friend of mine used to give them wrapped in a ribbon to his dates, he swore women loved them. You could also bring some exotic juices and offer to make them a virging cocktail or punch of some sort.
