For immediate pain relief, put some anbesol on it (a topical anesthetic). You'll have to re-apply it often. Also, rinse with warm salt water (1 tsp. per 6 oz warm water) four or five times a day. This will help with any infection. Yes, go ahead and take the ammoxicillin, it will help before you can see the Dentist. Also, take some advil, which will work better than tylenol. You'll know you have an infection if you have extreme pain and the area has puss or is swollen/red. If the infection is isolated in the roots, it may not show any outward signs. As far as him pulling a partial tooth, it shouldn't be a problem. Is an oral surgeon going to do it? They are usually better equipped to remove partial teeth but a real competent regular Dentist should be able to do it. It's weakened now so fracture is always a possibility when not removing a whole tooth. If it fractures when he grabs it and tries to pull it, he may refer you to an oral surgeon because it will have to be cut out as opposed to just pulled out. In that case, you might end up with a stitch or two. Hope this helps! Good luck.
