Please dont let him work on you. He will never be looked upon as an artist if he starts like this. we call them scratchers because they cant do a proper job adn it looks like they scratched you with a pin and rubbed ink in (basically when he will do)
professionals have months or years of training for a reason. theres more to worry about than just drawing (which doing with a heavy vibrating pencil is not easy in the first place even if ur picasso). Sterilisation techniques are essentila when anything involves blood. Ordinary household pins cannot be sterilised because of the type of metal. sterile means it has been heated and pressurised or treated with chemicals to kill all the nasties. you cannot get that with household equip.
home made tattoos are also associated with criminals. if you're underage ask ur parents to take you to a professional or wait til ur 18. It will be better than owning up to a nsty infection from doing it urself. if its cost that worrys you ask about apprentices. they usually work for little or free but have all the safety training of the other artists.

First of all this is for BabyGirl. What kind of an ignoramus are you! We're actually trying to use yahoo answers to educate people about the dangers of amateur tattoos, and to show the public that tattoo are a legitamate artform and you give this punk instructions on how to make a tattoo "gun"!!! Maybe you should go to the pregnancy section and tell them how to give coathanger abortions. As for you jam..... 1) I don't care if you can draw like Leonard Di Vinci tattooing skin is NOT the same as drawing on paper or tattooing grapefruits. Your VICTIMS are going to get crappy ink 2) You have no idea how to maintain a sterile field. And NO, putting on gloves before you tattoo some one is NOT maintaining a sterile field. 3) There is no way you can sterilize the equipment itself without an autoclave. And NO, rubbing alcohol on it does NOT sterilize the equipment. 4) As far as I know, you have no way of disposing of the bio hazardous wastes that are generated when you give someone a tattoo. At best you are going to give people crappy tattoos. At worse someone is going to get an infection and end up having a body part amputated or dying and you are going to end up in prison. Do all of us a favor. If you want to learn the art of tattooing then apply for an apprenticeship and learn from a professional. Rider (inked by a professional with a tattoo MACHINE)

No there is nothing wrong with doing tattoo's with a homemade gun. iv'e been doing it for approx. six and a half years with no complaints. learning to tattoo is another thing entirely. i suggest using grapefruits to learn on, the skin of a grapefruit is large enough to practice your lining and shading techniques without hooking out your victim. plus the skin of this fruit closely simulates the conditions of regular skin work. just be care full to float your needle and don't go too deep. the tip of your needle should only be about 1/16 of an inch at most. when shadeing tilt your gun at aprox. 45 degrees to the side this lets you shade a larger area faster. always strech the skin when doing lines and regular shading as well, when youv'e gotten good enough to work on photographic quality patterns like portraits, don't stretch the skin this lets you apply the shading gradually so you don't get to dark, too fast. p.s tattooing is against the law in most states without a license from the board of health, consult your state laws regarding this aspect.

The only thing wrong with this homemade tattoo is lack of proper tools and knowledge...which means the whole thing is a horrible idea.
Put the tattoo machine down! If he wants to be inking himself and others he should get an apprenticeship and work in a sterile, safe environment with proper supplies and equipment.

It might be worth the trouble if you're in jail, but because all the trouble, hassle, risk of infection...etc it will be better off to go to tattoo place.
Unless he is super meticulous about the whole process.
