I don't know where I found this recipe but I make it to many hurrahs and it's easy too. Serves 4
1 cup milk, 1 cup half and half; 4 egg yolks; 1/3 cup sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla 1 tbs cornstarch and 3tbs of brown sugar for caramelizing.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Scald the milk that is heat it until little bubbles appear around the edges but do not let it boil. Beat the egg yolks lightly. Then beat in the sugar, vanilla and corn starch. Combine 1/2 cup of milk with egg mixture. Put everything back in pot and cook over medium heat stirring until the mixture coats the spoon. Pour into custard cups. Then set the cups into a glass baking dish 1/2 filled with water. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, cool then chill for 3 hours.
Sprinkle 2 tsps of brown sugar over each custard cup. Broil under low flame until sugar becomes caramelized. Let sit for a few minutes. Then serve.
