Fresh Tattoo
Take bandage off in 2 hours
Wash tattoo carefully with warm soapy water
DO NOT SCRUB
Lightly pat the tattoo until dry…
DO NOT RUB
Apply a very thin coat of bacitracin or aquaphor ointment 3 times a day for 3 to 5 days
Although re-bandaging a tattoo is not recommended, if covering the tattoo is necessary a sterile bandage or dressing should be used.
Be sure and wash the tattoo every night and morning…
DO NOT SOAK
Avoid tattoo exposure to direct sunlight and refrain from swimming in fresh, salt or chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks.
After External Healing
Tattoos heal quickly BUT fading can still be a problem
Apply hand lotion once a day until dryness stops
Vaseline Intensive Care, Lubriderm, Nivea, etc...
Tanning fades tattoos
Always cover fully healed tattoo with sun block
DO NOT RUIN YOUR INVESTMENT!!!
Please Note:
Treat your tattoo with care… Improper care and bad advice can destroy your art!
Please contact a health care practitioner at the first sign of infection or an allergic reaction, and report any diagnosed infection, allergic reaction or adverse reaction to that artist and to the Texas Department of Health – Drugs and Medical Devices Division

It should be sore for a couple of days, depending on how quickly you heal-up in general. Keep in mind it does need air, wash it clean and air it out at night.
If it persists for more then a few days, seems to be getting worse, not better, or runs with puss you may have an infection.

It is normal, but if the redness doesn't go away in 24 to 36 hours, then best get it checked out - it could be an infection. If it is, you want to catch it early.

If there is redness there might be possibility of infection and I would use a antibiotic ointment. When my daughter got her tattoo they told her to use bactracin two to three times a day and she did not have any problems. Would not recommend neosporin, but would get the bactracin it is available almost everywhere. Good luck....

its normal. if you notice that redness is spreading and your arm feels hard and warm to the touch, then it is infected. if that happens put bacitracin on it. do NOT use neosporin. neosporin is actually not that great for you. after you see that it is no longer red and irritated, just use unscented lotion.
you should be good.

keep doing what you're doing, the redness will go down within a couple of days. you do not need to worry about changing lotions or anything, especially not to bacitracin or neosporin.
if it doesnt go down or gets worse go see your artist. diagnoses are hard when you cant see it. your artist has the most comprehensive training, they will be able to tell you anything you need.
