No, Scabies is not a fungi. Its caused by a mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. The main symptom is Itching which is worse at night. Itching and scratching the area can cause nodular bumps in the area. Scabies is a very infectious condition and can be acquired by skin to skin contact, for example sleeping in the bed of someone who has scabies. The mite is very small and can not be seen by eye, unlike body lice which is visible to the eye. The diagnosis is made by scraping the skin and seeing it under a microscope. Its a very easy to treat condition and people are completely cured.

Scabies is just another word for crabs (skin mite). Getting Scabies does not mean you have bad hygiene. Anyone can get them by just coming in contact with an infected piece of clothing or bedding. If there were eggs on that piece of clothing and it transfers to you, its a good possibility that you will come down with a full blown case of crabs.
You'll know within a day or so if you have them because you'll be itching your a_s off around your groin area and pretty much where ever you have hair or a crease in your skin or around the beltline area. They like it warm and moist. You'll also be able to see them, they will be little black specks. If you look at them under a magnified glass, they look like little crabs.
In Korea, I had a case of scabies. All it took was some KWELL shampoo and it killed them outright... no more itching. I did the Kwell thing for a few days just to make sure all the eggs were killed off too.
If you caught a case of them , best thing to do is to wash all your bedding and cloth in Hot water & a good detergent. Then use the Kwell shampoo. If you have long hair, get a special comb to brush out the eggs that might have attached to your hair.
Scabies, unlike Lice generally do not infect the scalp since it is out in the open. Scabies like it warm and moist, like under your armpits or groin area.

You have been told what scabies is so I have listed a pharmacy where you can get a cream (elimie) to treat scabies if in fact you have it as you may want to deal with your scabies privately from home.
