I have some mild, depressed acne-scars on a small part of both of my cheeks. I went to the doc and she said i don't have to go for laser treatments but chemical peels will do.. It sounds harsh to the skin and i'm afraid my skin problems might get worse..And are they really effective?? Anyone who have experienced the treatment, and know of the post-treatment results pls help me.. Thanks..

I went to the National Skin Centre for consultation and will be doing it there.. So the doc. is certainly a certified med practitioner..

There are different degrees of chemical peels. There are ones that cause mild exfoliation of the skin and some are more drastic. There are even some that require sedation. The deeper the peel the better the results. The milder the peel the more times you have to go. I have had two skin peels and loved the results. I had a fairly deep peel and entire face peeled over a period of about three days, and your skin feels really good afterwards. Don't think you can get these results from the over the counter kind because you can't I have tried them.. I don't know if they will help a great deal with scars, but since it is mild it probably should, some people say they have had luck with the peels, some they haven't. What to expect is this. First they clean the skin of dirt and make up. Then they will apply the chemical and they will ask how bad it is burning on scale of one to ten. The whole time I had a fan blowing on my face. They leave the chemical on for a number of minutes and then apply a neutralizer and then apply an ointment. It is not painful. Normally they give you a moisturizer and soothing balm to use on your face and give you a paper on how to care for your face as far as washing it and mositurzing. You cannot do anything to cause you to perspire heavily for the first couple of days and must avoid the sun the first two days and always use a sunscreen if you go outside. Your face feels very dry and sort of contracts, (Like when you need lotion on something) Depending on your degree of peel, about on day two your face looks like it was stuck in the oven and baked, (my daughter said I looked like the Crypt Keeper) it is not too pretty. About day three you will start to peel, do not pick at your face can cause scarring. You normally peel for about three days, heavily at first and less each day after. Then you have your fresh skin. It feels like baby's skin.. Like I said I have had two and would like to get some more, but at 150.00 each cannot afford two many.... Hope this has helped and good luck with whatever you decide to do...
