I was all against it when they did it here in California. I still think it is strange to see people hanging in front of bars smoking. You hardly go into a bar for your health. Every bar that could fenced off a piece of outdoors and called it a patio.
Now that I'm over three years without a cig, I really see how they irratate people. But I still think you should have a place to sit and have a drink and a smoke. And others should have a place to have a drink and not have to breathe smoke.

In Scotland the pubs, discos and restaurants are quieter and a lot are closing down, its a bad idea and if you go out you have to stand in the cold and rain for a smoke, some of us even go 60miles south across the borders at the weekends just to enjoy ourself.

It was introduced in Scotland last year. Personally I was delighted. The air in pubs and restaurants is much clearer for us non-smokers. Also on the plus side a recent news item said bingo halls are struggling in Scotland since the ban.
Only downside, she who must be obeyed has to pop into the street between courses when we go out for a meal.

Ok...I'm a smoker, and I can see why people want to ban smoking. It's horrible to the people around you who don't smoke, and they really shouldn't have to put up with the smoke and put themselves in danger.
I think in bars, smoking should be allowed. They shouldn't totally ban it, but if they want no smoking, they should at least have smoking sections of the bar where you can go and have a cigarette.
Resturants and such, I see no problem with having no smoking all together.
Pubs, the same as bars to me. They should have non smoking and smoking sections.

I think it is totally ridiculous, WHERE IS OUR RIGHTS, CRIMINALS GET MORE RIGHTS THAN US SMOKERS. I agree with banning it in enclosed spaces but they could have smoking and non smoking pubs. In the NHS where I work from the 26th of this month we can,t even smoke in the grounds,as I said criminals get more rights than law abiding citizens

Works up here in Scotland. Never mind the health benefits, it is nice to be able to go home after a quick pint and not stink of other peoples smoke.

I think it's fine the way it is, separate the people who want to smoke from those who don't want to smoke. What's the problem with that? Why are people dead set on the idea that they MIGHT be exposed to smoke for 2.5 seconds? It's not mustard gas people, it's not going to make your lungs bleed.

I think it makes it easier to give up as the temptation is not all around you - having said that there should be somewhere you could choose to go where it is allowed.
