I drink Italian wine all the time and love it. It is not just chiani. A very popular and nice white wine from Italy is Pinot Grigio and the red wines from Tuscany are excellent. Try a Montepulciano for instance. One of my favorites is a red wine from Sicily. It is called Tre Riveri (Three Rivers) and has a medium dry fruity taste. I would suggest that you go to a very good wine store and ask one of the sales people there to suggest an Italian wine for you. Tell them a little about your tastes, what you enjoy and the type of food you are planning to eat and I am sure they will come up with something to suit your palate.

it will depend on what will tickle your fancy at first, you have to try several wines for you to know which one you prefer. But if you were new at this and knowing the filipino taste I would recomend the "Lambrusco wine". It has a sweet fruity taste that mostly filipinos and asians prefer. Maybe taken chilled or served at room temp. Cheers!

Just drink your way through anything that has "DOCG" on the label and decide for yourself.
