A few weeks back I noticed that my gauge was readin 3/4 after topping off the tank. I didn't think anything until I realized how expensive it is getting? When I first bought the car it got 425 miles at a full tank. Now it read 380 after being filled up. Why is my gauge readings off? Can it be fixed and if so how?

It could be that your float in the tank is hanging up or the float may have sprung a leak due to corrosion. You may have a weak connection and getting some Resistance back to the gauge. Take it to a repair shop and get it fixed. I hate to mess with gas tanks myself. They're dangerous and heavy too.

Have you changed gas stations? I've noticed that some stations' automatic cutoff comes really quickly. Try doing a manual fill after it cuts off and top it off.

ford man was right and the float might be dirty so it might be getting weighed down. so the question is if you want to pay the massive mechanic bill so if the car isn't worth much its time for a trade in
