My question is two-fold.

In the USMC (Marines), when you first arrive for basic training at Parris Island or San Diego, you are drug tested during your in-processing.

1) If you fail the drug test, do you get discharged immediately?

2) If you do get discharged, what kind of discharge do you get? General discharge or dishonorable discharge?

You don't get discharged.

You get an entry level seperation. Assuming that they don't prosecute you for illegal use or fraudulent enlistment.

General. It takes a lot to get a dishonorable discharge.

If you get any discharge at all, it will probably be a General discharge., if they don't nail you for lying to them.

Usually it's a dishonourable discharge.

first 180 days is a general. You get kicked out when they get the test results. I would suggest just telling them at MEPS before you ship.

Probably a DD, but I've heard they're willing to work with you as long as you go clean immediately.

Nothing. The military now is so desperate for people to join, they are even recruiting people with felonies now more than ever.
