If you want to become a cop, the time is NOW!
why now you ask?
Maybe because a lot of the baby boomers are retiring or very near to it, many police departments will lose as much as half of their force. Major police departments have started recruiting drastically to meet the number of officers required by the city. Standards have even been slightly lowered to meet that number, never the less it's a competitive world....minimum requirements usually aren't enough to become an officer;;
usually minimum requirements are A clean record ( real clean) H.s Diploma, Drivers License and must be able to pass some type of exam depending on what state it is.....
You will be subject to a lie detector and physical exam...
People with 4year college degrees and Military Background have priority.....
If by some chance you get chosen....then you get sent to the police academy where the drop out rate is an avg. of 50% drop out....(at least in my city) For every 100 applicants, 4 become officers.....good luck!
Im working on it myself..

Most colleges, including community colleges, have a criminal justice program specifically for just that. Before you even get started though, rule yourself out if you have had any felonies, arrests pertaining to narcotics (pretty much any drugs, but SOMETIMES you may get lucky if they need people and it was forever ago and this ONLY pertains to marijuana), DUIs, or any violent crimes. A conviction on ANY of these is a MAJOR strike against you, and most won't even consider you. Even speeding tickets can be a problem if you have a bunch. So pretty much live on the straight and narrow, be decently in shape, and have a degree in criminal justice pertaining to law enforcement and you're on the right track.
Oh and if you ever pull me over... it will never happen again officer.

just check when the applications are out.
qualifications vary for the rank u apply for.
usually 3 olevels should be enough but u may have other qualifications that give u head start like a course in criminology, law enforcement, olicing, criminal justice, law etc ...
the police academy will also teach u anything u need to know

Depending on what state you live in ----------some departments will hire you then send you through the Academy, while other states will already want you to have been through an Academy. Have you considered going to College and getting your degree in Criminal Justice-----------this day & age you are much better off to have your degree first.(ex cop here)
