At least the Yaris is reliable and very well built. Treat it right (service it at recommended intervals.. especially with fresh oil) and they usually easily do over 100,000+ miles. Toyota reliability.

Or go for the Renault... but I'd definately be happier in the Yaris for its usually excellent reliability.

hi, i have had in my time a clio williams, a phase 2 172 and a 182 cup.

firstly i must admit i have not driven the 197 but have read many reviews and none more than Evo magazine which i consider to be the bible of car mags.

Read their review on it here.

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/203750/mini_cooper_s_v_renaultsport_clio_197.html

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evolongtermtests/204615/renault_clio_197.html

the 'hot hatch' market is abundant with real competitors to the clio, which used to be top of its game but the 197 is waiting to be 'cupped' When a cup model is released then things will get exciting.

I would say no to 197, although it does look tough. I would save yourself thousands and buy the 'ultimate' clio the Trophy.

You can get one for about 10k and it comes with those Sachs Racing suspension dampers. I guess a 197 looks better on inside than the 182's and Trophy but its about driving and the Trophy rocks. Renault are definitely the top hot hatch builder ever since the R5 turbo 2.

I was sad to see my 182 go, and i bought a TVR Tuscan instead which spent most of its time in garage and no where near as much fun.

Above all whatever you buy will be better than the Yaris, dont let anyone talk you out of a renault. Peugeot cannot compete, forget the Seat, GTi, Type R, ST5 and definitely a cooper etc etc. They all good but Renault been building on hot hatch success for years, the GTI only other one but even then it it lost the plot from the MK3 onwards.

Good luck and above all enjoy.

I'd risk a Clio 197. It looks a cracking car for the money, especially if you go to a car 'supermarket', rather than a Renault dealer. Don't worry though, you'll soon meet him. In fact you may well be on first name terms after 6 months. Never mind, when it's working, you'll have lots of fun.

In 20 years of driving I've had a lot of different cars. I've currently got a Renault Laguna and I'm happy with this car and I'll stick to Renault's from now on. Go for it.

the clio 197 is a good car, but the 182 is better in terms of weight and speed....the 197 packs 197bhp which is brill...but i fink u should w8 a while untill the corsa vxr...which is a 1.6 that packs 191 bhp and has the same speed as the 197.......in my opinion i woudnt get the 197...would wait a while or get a polo gti or golf.

Yes get a new car, just don't get a French one. All French cars are unreliable junk.
