Vista doesn't work with Word versions below 2007. Now you'll have to buy that, too.
You should have thought of that before you upgraded.

Windows Vista is an operating system while Microsoft Word and Microsoft Works are application programs that are installed to run on an operating system. Vista does not contain Word or Works.
You have to get Microsoft Office if you want Word because Word is a part of Office. Excel and Powerpoint are also parts of Office.
If you have Office, you won't need Works because both of them do the same basic functions - word processing, spreadsheet and presentation. Office is more powerful, and costs a lot more, than Works.
You have to go out to the stores to buy a copy of Office because it is not available as a download.

If you don't have the original disks, you're probably out of luck. You can download the nice OpenOffice software from openoffice.org.
(BTW, I am able to run Office 2003 on Vista)

particular you could open and save Microsoft workplace information in Open workplace. Microsoft workplace 2007 information will no longer be able to be open yet. yet you could open and save(save as) the information from the previous variations of workplace.
