I've been unemployed for several years because I wanted to write my book, and she blames me for it. I live with her.

You can do two things at once. Thousands do it. When you book sells you can buy her a huge home, a maid. a chauffeur, till then help out get a job and write at night. You are young. Many people work and create. There is no excuse for you to be not working. None at all. I would be very very upset if I were your MOM. Be a strong young person and get a job and create at night.

It's not the best thing you can tell her-it's the best thing you can show her--get a job! You can work on writing your book in your spare time. Lots of writers have and are doing that. You need to show her that you are quite capable of taking care of yourself. You need to get a job-full time preferred, and pay your mom room and board. If need be, get your own place once you get a job and get some money saved up. You are supposed to be an adult now-and show it. a mama eagle, when it is time for her young to leave the nest, pull out all the soft nesting material to make it uncomfortable for the young to stay, then they will leave. Your mom has obviously been not only pulling the soft stuff out of the nest, she's been helping with the poking and prodding by blaming you for this. It's one thing if you were working, paying room and board, and writing your book in your spare time. You have been sponging off of her all this time. Think of it this other way, you are already spending any inheritance yu may get, by living with her now, and not working-paying room and board. It's time to grow up, be responsible.

You have not been working? Is that why she is upset with you?
You can write and work at the same time. She just wants to see you do more with your life than you are. Writing a book is fine but
she wants to see you self supporting and live your life as a responsible adult. It's not so much what you tell her, it's what you do. Find a job, move out and make your own way. Take control of your life.

I'm with you on the writing part, at least mostly. I say you should get a part time job, and a small apartment away from you mother, if she's bothering you about it. Meanwhile, when you're not working, work on your book. Time management. Priority before necessity. Not something I always practice, but it's a good idea.

I think get a job and you can write in your free time...just as a hobby...so just go and do a part time job. I wish you all the best.

It is your fault. You've not been working. She should blame you. She's supporting you. Get a job. Help her out.
