if your doctor says two weeks then it is two weeks.
Do what your doctor recommends

Hi,

having a mole removed leaves a wider 'hole' than, say, a slice with a knife, which would leave a very narrow 'hole'. It would be normal, therefore to leave stitches/sutures in for a longer period.

If a narrow 'slice' is closed with sutures the healing can begin right away and after a few days the stitches could be quite safely removed. With a wider 'hole' the edges of the wound are under more tension and are likely to be pulled apart if the stitches are taken out too soon.

This is why yours have been left for two weeks. The leg area, too is a relatively insensitive area and removal of stiches is likely to be much less painful than if they were in more sensitive areas. Don't worry they have been left in too long...it is quite normal and done for a very sound medical reason.

Good luck with the (eventual) removal (ouch!)

Cheers,

my brother had a mole removed from his hip and his stitches were removed after around 2 weeks so this sounds good

it depends on the depth of the original wound. It is not unusual for a doctor to want the sutures in for two weeks if he had to dig deep.

if they dont use dermabond..i guess one week , unabsorbable sutures should be removed, as long as its not infected, 2 weeks should not be that long
