Scientifically it has not proved that it will cause stone formation. The controversy is because of the oxalic acid content. But then some other vegetables have more oxalic acid content than tomato and spinach.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

Bull! Kidney stones are made of calcium! It might make you feel miserable if you have stones already but it won't cause them.
