I always had wavy hair. Nothing you could call curly. I also colored my hair for the last 15 years. Last year, I cut it all off, and am growing it out my natural color.....some gray, but only a few streaks. But it is SO curly. Any explanation for this????

I believe that hair shape is determined by the shape of the follicle of the skin. I know that each person's hair follicles have different geometry from other people, this causes straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, etc. So, I don't see why we have to keep the same shape follicle all our lives! As we age our bodies change and we look very different then we did ten years ago. In fact, I was told that there is no cell in your body that is older then 10 years old! (except maybe brain cells, and even that is up for debate).
I believe the oldest cells are bone cells. So all that cell regeneration can have some dramatic effects on our looks over time.

I don't have an explanation. But, I have noticed the same thing with my hair. My hair is way curlier than it was when I was younger. When my hair is wet it literally forms ringlets.

I wonder if I will have an afro by the time I'm 50. LOL.

No explanation, but something similar happened to my hairdresser--she told me once she went through menopause, her hair started getting curly.Prior to that it was quite straight. I don't know how old you are, but could this be happening to you too? I'm kinda jealous, I wish my hair would curl.

me too. My hair was always dead straight, and now at age 39 it's started to get quite wavy

I have heard of this before. The dynamics of your hair can change if you cut it all off. I don't know why but I think it's kind of cool.
