People have been asking this question since the beginning of mankind. I do not know why man must feel like he needs a purpose unless he is lost and searching.
I have never asked myself this question. I know *I* am here to help others around me and I am happy to leave it at that. I am a Bio major and not a Philosopher. ;)
This is something that cannot be determined. It is a perpetually unanswered question.
The Bible says we are put here to serve God, and live a good wholesome life (i.e. doing good works).
For those who do not believe, it can make sense to say there *is* no purpose. However, you can create purpose individually through helping others around you.
I believe in God, but even if you don't, there is still meaning and purpose for all.
I believe that even those who are a negative influence in the world are still part of a master plan, one which we cannot comprehend nor determine, much like your question.

There is a book titled "Man's Searching For Meaning" by Victor E. Frankl. This may be start for the journey ahead.
We know we are born and we know we will die, so we can a gift of time for that journey. Our time may be short or it may be long, but we always know our end.
There are those who look after our end. They say and see things to demonstrate what is beyond. We may believe them or not. In either case, we cannot observe the truthfulness of their claim.
You asked what is the purpose of life, are you sure you have asked the right question. In any case, check out Victor's book.

Mankind's desire & purpose is to live life in a paradisaic earth-wide park, with fellow humans, all of which are perfect in every way. Thusly, everyone & every thing bringing glory to the Creator, God Jehovah / Yahweh.

Purpose of life is to promote and prosper human life,environment,help others,amuse others,be happy,make money,spend money,enjoy all the luxuries,travel a lot,appericate beauty in every form,sing,play music and hear music.Fill the canvas of life with all the colours of love.

To figure out how to live and enjoy . We make our own purpose through using our heads something few ever accomplish but only come close to by obeying others who thought a little. the trick is to think a lot more and a lot longer.

There is no purpose other than to be as you inherently are.
'Purpose' would mean there is some kind of 'beginning' and 'end' to your existence. It is a temporal term. You are an infinite being that is just deluded (due to a material existence) into a materialistic model of existence.

I can't tell you what your purpose is. My purpose is to keep surrendering to God in order that He may transform me into the image of His son, and make of me the person He would have me be, while I'm on this earth, for His good purposes.

The purpose is for you to figure it out yourself and figure what makes you happy. Hopefully you want love of some kind and a Corvette and a few dogs and other pets.
