My mum had it done a few days ago, and last night she wasn't paying attention and closed the door to the car with THAT hand, and felt an overwhelming pain.

Now, obviously I would consult a doctor, but it's a long weekend and I want to get some insight on what might have happened until we call the doctor.

So I know they scalpel open the transverse carpal ligament... But is it meant to fuse back within a couple of days? And is there a possibility that it had fused back and my mum tore it open? And if so, is there danger. Also she wants me to ask about any exercises she could do to help the recovery...

Any help would be appreciate. Thanks...

If, as you say, surgery was just a few days ago,she just probably stretched the healing incisional wound. Since there are still stitches, nothing to worry about. When you divide the carpal ligament, it is not meant to fuse back. Otherwise, you get CTS all over again.

Your mother felt pain because of using the surgery hand. More than likely there was no damage. As to exercise first off she needs to recover from the surgery before starting any exercise. Repetitive movement is the reason people get carpal tunnel syndrome. Ask the doctor if she will be placed in physical therapy once the surgery has healed. More than likely this is what the doctor plans for rehabilitation. Ask as many questions as you can to your doctor that's what they're there for.

If you need any further advice let me know.

It is possible as with all surgery, a healing had begun on a muscle and if by using her hand she has torn it, then no harm is done. You may be worriying unnecessarily.
If your mother still has full movement and nothing is limp and not responding, then you have done something to the internal.
For example, those who have had broken or cracked ribs, when they move they literally rebreak or recrack the beginning of the mending process, this is good. The healing then makes adjustments for certain types of movements, and compensates.
To assist your mother in carpal tunnel, eat spinach every day and as much as she is able to do so. Spinach is high in potassium and carpal tunnel syndrome and RSI rip that from the body. Having had RSI myself, I found Spinach the best for healing, eaten raw or cooked.

the classic time for restoration differs from human being to human being, yet its in a great number of cases some weeks. You didnt say in case your rfile is a hand professional or an internist....large difference...have you ever had an EMG try and MRI of the wrists? both will be functional make certain no matter if that is carpal tunnel ...or something else....a lot of people have had this surgical procedure with out problem, yet its most suitable to communicate along with your rfile about the pro's and con's of surgical procedure...most of the tremendous education hospitals have hand surgeons round....check out it and best of success
