Yes. Counselling is a definite and immediate. The faster a victim gets into counselling after a rape, the faster they heal. It's scary and horrifying to relive the situation, but it's far worse to hide it. The victim in counselling needs support and gets support.

Whatever your reason for asking this question, I hope all the answers positive answers here will take away any doubt about counselling.

Best wishes.

I was a volunteer for a rape crisis hotline. Many women (and men) who are raped benefit from counseling because they can address practical issues, like how to feel safe again, how to decide whom to trust and whom to tell. Counseling can help a rape victim process the rage and fear that often consumes them. Counseling can help a rape victim cope with the shame that, unfortunately, so many victims still feel. Counseling can help a rape victim know what to expect on the difficult journey from victim to survivor.

I think it's almost always a good idea. Just make sure the therapist is experienced or that the support group is well trained and progressive. Start with your community's rape crisis organization and you'll probably be able to get referrals to well qualified, well thought of counselors. You might even be eligible for free counseling in your community.

You need to have counselling after something so traumatic. You need to know that it was not your fault ,that you are normal, and with time the wounds will heal. You need to ventillate, talk it out ,shout it out and do a lot of crying. The worst thing you can do is keep it down in side ,this will surley make you depressed. You will probably at some point ( but not necessarily) suffer from Post Traumatic Stress....caused from this traumatic event....if it does ,then you will recognize it and seed medical advise. You are not going crazy!

Yes. I really think counseling is an important part of healing and moving on with life. I would suggest looking for help at the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network. (R.A.I.N.N.) They have a national hotline you call to get help. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

No real experience myself but I know counseling is a must. The character of the individual may be strong enough to overcome the pain, but it will help to have a professional there to make sure she's not fooling herself.
