Start with your vision - what's important to you and what's important to your fiance? What kind of an event do you want? for example, do you want formal and elegant, or do you want fun and relaxed? Find three words that describe what you want the day to be like. This is not about details - yet.
Then every time you have a decision to make about the details, look and see if it fits with your vision.
My vision for our wedding was fun, love, and alive. I wanted to have lots of children there so I made it informal and during the late afternoon. I wanted bright, bold colors to express excitement and happiness.
So get your vision - and then get your VENUE!

There are quite a few websites but basically:
1) Location and venue (could be a year or even more for a popular one)
2) Check with registrar and religious body (again - popular places need some months' notice)
3) Accommodation if necessary (up to a year for popular locations)
and caterer if not the same organisation as venue.
4) Let important family/friends know the date
5 Photographer (a professional if popular may need several months)
6) Wedding dress, bridal party hire (several months)
7) Car hire if necessary (several months)
7) Musicians if you want live music (a few months)
8) Invitations (send out about 5 months before)
9) Florists and favours/gifts (a couple of months)
10) Rings if not being designed (couple of months)
Other things in between. If getting the money together for all this is an issue, then it may be more than the year!
If it is a small wedding and a venue doesn't need booking far in advance, then the only limiting factor is the availability of the registrar ... and it could all be organised in a few weeks!

As a mobile DJ and Club DJ I would start with Location. Where is the wedding and reception going to be..? Then I would find out form the place you rent if they serve food. In-between get your tux and have the bride to be get her wedding dress. Ask the place you rented about getting a wedding cake, Once you have completed some ground, you can start sending out invitations to everyone. I would also start working on your song list for The First Dance, and create a list of artists you would like the DJ or Musicians to play, unless you rent a jukebox.
I would find a photographer, and start shopping for DJ or a Band.
Steps
1.) Location (see if they will decorate..? Most places will.)
2.) Food Service
3.) Cake
4.) Tux/Wedding Dress
5.) Photographer or you can have a friend take pictures (save some money)
6.) DJ/Band
Almost done...................
7.) Bach...Party (be careful)
8.) Get Married
9.) Celebrate
10.) Honeymoon

I think there no order to prepare for a wedding...just make a list of what all is necessary for the wedding for example..dress, ring, shoes etc.. and start buying this...and just be cool..everything will be fine...All the Best for ur wedding.

Both of these sites have a "checklist" that gives you a full rundown timeline from 1 yr to the wedding to day of the wedding... broken down for you. Good Luck.

It doesn't matter. Just figure out what you want and go about planning it. My lover and I are lucky though, our parents are doing the whole thing! :) Maybe if you don't want to do it hire yourself a wedding planner if your parents are not so in love with weddings that they want to do it all for you and pay too.
